Texas Tech graduates selected as top 40 Under 40 for financial planning

InvestmentNews has selected two people from Texas Tech University as honorees on their 2020 40 under 40 list for financial planning.

Christopher M. Browning, an associate professor and associate chair for the department, and Philip Gibson, an alumnus of the department’s doctoral program, were chosen from about 1,000 nominees by InvestmentNews to make the annual list of professionals changing the financial advice industry.

Browning created the Financial Planning Academy, a national one-week summer program, and has been running it since 2016. The program is designed to introduce high school students to financial planning as a career path, and has so far guided 200 students to the Texas Tech campus. He earned a doctorate from TTU in 2013.

“It is a tremendous honor to be part of the InvestmentNews 40 Under 40 class of 2020,” Browning said. “A number of Texas Tech alumni have received this honor over the years, and I’m proud to join them as a representative of Texas Tech’s outstanding Personal Financial Planning program.”

Gibson is the head of the financial planning program at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He is a member of the Association of African American Financial Advisors and director and vice president of international relations for the Academy of Financial Services. He earned his doctorate from TTU in 2012.

“I am truly honored to recognized among such an impressive group of individuals,” Gibson said. “Much of what I am able to do today, I attribute to the Personal Financial Planning faculty at Texas Tech University. I am proud to represent my Red Raiders.”
