Do you love animals? If so, you might be excited to learn about the best side hustles for animal lovers.

This can be a great way to combine your passion for animals with making extra money.

There are many ways animal lovers can make money on the side. You could walk dogs, pet sit, or even take pictures of cute animals. Some people bake dog treats or help train dogs. These side jobs let you spend time with animals while making more money, which means you can enjoy your time while you earn money!

I personally have several friends and family members who have animal side hustles (I have many family members who work with dogs, horses, farm animals, bees, and more!), and they all seem to really love working with animals. Yes, it can be hard work, but it is rewarding.

Best Side Hustles for Animal Lovers

Below are the best ways for animal lovers to make extra money.

1. Sell dog treats

A dog treat bakery can be a fun and profitable side hustle for animal lovers.

Many pet owners want high-quality, healthy treats for their pets, and homemade options are in high demand.

I have bought many homemade dog treats over the years, and they are such a great treat to give to your pets.

Plus, you may be able to start this business right from your home kitchen with just a few simple ingredients and tools.

To get started, you can try making basic dog biscuits using pet-safe ingredients like peanut butter, pumpkin, or sweet potato (here’s a free peanut butter dog treat recipe you can try!).

The startup costs are low since you likely already have most of the kitchen tools you need. Your main expenses will be ingredients and packaging. As you grow, you can try selling different items like specialty treats, birthday cakes for dogs, or seasonal items for holidays (people love to spoil their animals because it’s fun after all!).

A home-based dog treat business can earn between $500 to $1,000 a month as a side hustle. If you decide to go full-time, the potential earnings can be much higher! You can sell at farmers markets, local pet shops, or even online through Etsy and social media.

2. Veterinary technician

Veterinary technicians work with veterinarians and help with daily tasks like weighing animals that come into the office, keeping pets calm, giving medications (as directed by a vet), helping with exams, and more.

While many veterinary technicians work full-time, it is possible to find part-time vet tech jobs. You may be able to find part-time vet tech jobs at local veterinary clinics, animal shelters and rescues, pet boarding facilities, and zoos.

Vet techs typically make around $15 to $25 an hour, and it mainly depends on where you live.

3. Pet sitting and dog walking

Pet sitting and dog walking are great ways to make money while hanging out with animals. You can watch pets in your home or go to the owner’s house. It’s great if you love animals and have some free time.

Many pet owners need help when they travel or work long hours. You might feed pets, take them for walks, or just keep them company. Some pets need special care, like giving medicine or extra attention.

You can find pet sitting jobs through apps or websites, and you can see my top list at 7 Best Dog Walking Apps To Make Extra Money. Rover and Wag are popular platforms that connect pet sitters with owners. You can also ask friends and neighbors if they need help with their pets.

My husband’s mother is a dog walker and has many consistent clients. It’s a job that looks like fun, especially if you like spending time with dogs and cats. I also have hired and used dog sitters many times over the years, and I am always so grateful for their services!

4. Animal photography

If you love animals and taking pictures, then animal photography might be the perfect animal side hustle for you!

Many pet owners want cute photos of their animals. You can sell pet portrait sessions or action shots of animals playing.

You can advertise your services on social media (such as by building a portfolio of animal photography and sharing it on your Instagram account) or at local pet stores.

Pricing can vary, but pet photo sessions usually cost around $100 to $200. With practice, you could make some nice extra money doing something fun with animals.

5. Custom pet portraits

Another side hustle for animal lovers that is similar to the one above is making custom pet portraits.

If you love to draw or paint, then you may be able to turn your artistic skills into a fun side hustle by creating custom pet portraits.

Many pet owners want special artwork of their pets. I have personally bought maybe 5 or 6 custom pet portraits for family members as gifts over the years as well! They were all watercolor portraits of their dogs that they then put up on their wall (because they were so cute and well done!).

Here’s an example of custom pet portraits on Etsy to give you a better idea of what I’m talking about.

You can offer different styles like watercolor, digital art, or sketches. Then, set up an online shop to showcase your work and take orders. Social media is great for sharing your pet portraits and finding customers too.

6. Pet grooming

Many pet owners don’t have the time or skills to keep their pets clean and tidy.

Pet groomers wash, brush, and trim animals’ fur. You might also clip their nails and clean their ears. It’s a hands-on job that lets you work closely with all kinds of pets.

You can start small by offering services to friends and family. As you build skills and confidence, you can expand your client base. Some groomers work from home, while others set up mobile grooming vans.

To get started with a pet grooming job, you will want to learn basic grooming techniques online or through local classes. While not required, getting certified can help you attract more clients because it shows that you know how to keep pets safe and comfortable during grooming.

7. Pet relocation

Pet relocation is a great side hustle for animal lovers. You can help pets move to new homes or travel with their owners.

With a pet relocation job, you’ll need to learn about pet travel rules because each country and airline has its own rules. For example, you may need to help pet owners get the right papers and shots for their pets.

Your main job will be to make sure pets are safe and comfortable during their trip. You might book flights, get travel crates, and take pets to the airport. Some people even fly with the pets to make sure they’re okay.

Not all pet relocation jobs are via air. Many will consist of you moving the pet via your car, and bringing them across the country, for example. Sometimes people do not have the time to drive a long distance in their car with their pet, but they also do not want to put their pet in the airplane storage area (because it can be dangerous), so they pay someone to transport their pet.

This side hustle can be fun and rewarding because you get to help pets and their owners during a big change in their lives.

To get started, you can look for pet relocation companies that need help (a simple Google search of “pet relocation company” brings up several). Or you can start your own business.

  • Pet care and training
  • Pet health and wellness
  • DIY pet projects (like making dog treats, pet beds, etc.)
  • Traveling with pets
  • Wildlife, conservation, and nature
  • Farm and homesteading
  • Pet fashion
  • Dog breed guides
  • Senior pet care

And so much more!

9. Pet training services

Many pet owners need help teaching their pets good behavior and fun tricks. If you have experience training animals, then this can be a good and rewarding side hustle.

People hire animal trainers for all kinds of animals, such as dogs, cats, and even exotic pets. Yes, there is more than just dog training!

Examples of what you can sell include:

  • Puppy training classes
  • Potty training assistance
  • Off-leash training
  • Obedience training
  • Cat training (such as help with litter box issues or unwanted scratching)
  • Horse training
  • Exotic pet training (teach basic commands and handling techniques for birds, rabbits, or reptiles)

And so much more. There are many different pet side hustles related to training that you can offer.

10. Pet print on demand

Selling pet products, such as print-on-demand products, could be your perfect side hustle!

Print-on-demand is when you create custom designs for products like:

  • Custom pet tags
  • Dog and cat collars
  • Pet bandanas
  • Pet clothing like dog sweaters
  • Pet bowls
  • Wall art and prints
  • Mugs (with sayings that are related to animals or have animals printed on them)
  • Tote bags
  • Greeting cards

And so much more.

What’s great about print-on-demand is that you don’t need to keep any inventory. When someone buys your product, the print-on-demand company makes it and ships it for you.

11. Horse care services

If you love horses, then you may be able to turn your passion into a side hustle that makes you money. Horse care services are in high demand, and many horse owners need help with daily tasks.

Some services you could sell include:

  • Grooming services: This includes brushing, washing, and trimming horses.
  • Feeding and watering horses: Some owners need someone to do this daily or when they’re away. You’d make sure the horses have fresh food and water.
  • Cleaning stalls is an important job too. It keeps horses healthy and comfortable. You’d remove dirty bedding and replace it with fresh materials.
  • Exercise is so important for horses. You could offer to walk or ride horses for owners who are busy. This keeps the horses fit and happy.

You can start a horse care side hustle by reaching out to local stables or horse owners.

12. Beekeeping

Beekeeping can be a sweet side job for animal lovers. You get to care for bees and harvest honey.

I know three different families who have a beekeeping side hustle. They sell small batches of honey at farmers markets and to people that they know. We have been thinking about starting this as well, mainly just for ourselves so that we can have some fresh honey.

You’ll need some basic equipment. This includes hives, protective gear, and tools. You can join a local beekeeping group to learn more because they often offer classes and support for beginners.

Beekeeping does take time and patience – you’ll need to check on your hives regularly and make sure the bees are healthy and have enough food. You’ll also need to protect them from pests and bad weather.

13. Wildlife biologist

A wildlife biologist could be a great side job for you if you love animals.

Wildlife biologists study animals in their natural homes to better understand them. This is usually a full-time job, but I wanted to include it in this article because I know that it is a popular career path for animal lovers!

Some work in the field (such as by tracking animals and collecting samples), while others analyze data in labs or write reports that help wildlife protection policies. Wildlife biologists also help educate the public and do so much more.

It’s a rewarding career for those who love animals and want to make a difference, but it does usually require a degree in wildlife biology or a related field. Salaries typically range from $45,000 to $85,000 per year, and jobs can be found in government agencies, research institutions, and conservation groups.

14. Zookeeper

A zookeeper is someone who cares for animals in zoos, wildlife parks, and sanctuaries, making sure they are healthy, well-fed, and happy.

Some of the things they do include preparing food, cleaning enclosures, monitoring animal behavior, and even assisting veterinarians with medical care.

They also help educate visitors about wildlife conservation, which is a big part of protecting endangered species. It’s a physically demanding job that requires dedication and a deep love for animals, but it can also be very rewarding.

Most zookeepers have a degree in zoology, biology, or animal science, and gain hands-on experience through internships or volunteer work. Salaries are usually around $30,000 to $50,000 per year, and while it’s not the highest-paying job, it’s a dream career for many animal lovers who want to make a real impact!

Why sell gold right now?

Before we get into the step-by-step instructions, let’s talk about why selling gold is a good idea right now.

Gold prices are currently very high, and that’s great news if you’ve got gold jewelry, coins, or other pieces that you don’t use anymore. This means that even small or broken items could be worth more money than you expect.

Here are a few reasons why people choose to sell gold:

  • They need fast cash for an emergency or unexpected expense
  • They want to declutter their home or simplify their jewelry box
  • They’ve inherited gold they don’t want or need
  • They’re saving up for something else, like a vacation, wedding, or down payment

Whatever your reason, gold can be a surprisingly easy way to bring in extra money and usually within just a few days.

The Best Steps To Take To Sell Your Gold

Below is my step-by-step guide.

Many gold jewelry rings, earrings and necklaces with big amount of US dollar bills on white background. How To Sell Gold (Step-By-Step Guide)

1. Gather your gold items

The first thing you’ll want to do is go on a little treasure hunt. Go through your jewelry box, safe, or storage containers and gather up anything that might be gold. You might be surprised by how many pieces you’ve collected over the years!

Common items you can sell include:

  • Necklaces and bracelets
  • Rings and earrings
  • Gold coins
  • Watches with gold bands
  • Broken or mismatched items
  • Dental gold or scrap pieces

Even items that seem old, outdated, or damaged can still have value. Gold is gold, after all.

Tip: You can look for markings on your jewelry like “10K,” “14K,” “18K,” or “24K.” These indicate how pure the gold is, which affects how much it’s worth. But even if you’re not sure, that’s okay – Gold to Cash will test everything for you for free.

2. Choose a place to sell to

This is one of the most important steps in the process.

Not all gold buyers are the same. Some might give you a low price or charge hidden fees, while others might not be very transparent about their process.

They process all packages the same day they’re delivered, so you’ll get your offer quickly, sometimes even within just a few hours after drop-off.

4. Get your offer

After your gold arrives, Gold to Cash will test and weigh each item. They’re super transparent about the process and use industry-standard equipment to measure your gold’s value.

Want to know where to sell old Legos for the most money? Here’s how you can find out how much your Legos are worth as well as the best places to sell your Legos.

Legos are very popular, and they are also expensive. So, instead of doing nothing with them, you may be wondering if you can make extra money with them instead.

I personally think that selling your old Legos is a great way to declutter and make extra money. So many people have tubs and tubs of unused Legos that they either toss or let collect dust.

Luckily, there are quite a few places to sell Legos, and I’ll be going over the best places to sell these favorite toys.

Where To Sell Old Legos for Cash

Below is a list of the best places to sell old Legos.

Recommended reading: 9 Best Places To Sell Old Toys

1. BrickLink

BrickLink is one of the most popular places to sell LEGO products. This platform sells both new and used LEGO sets, minifigures, and individual bricks. People who frequent the site include LEGO enthusiasts, collectors, and builders who are looking for rare or specific LEGO pieces.

BrickLink also has unique community features like building tools, wish lists, and storefronts for independent sellers, so it is a very popular spot for people who like Legos. In fact, Bricklink has over 1,000,000 registered members, 10,000 sellers in its marketplace, and has had over 127,000 unique LEGO items for sale.

To become a seller on BrickLink, you need to register and set up a free account, and then share your store details including store name, payment methods, and shipping options. Then you’ll set prices, conditions (new/used), and descriptions of each item. There are fees for selling on BrickLink too.

2. eBay

EBay is a popular spot to sell Legos because there’s a large audience of LEGO fans on the site. There’s a high demand for some LEGO sets, making eBay a great spot to hold an auction or list your item for a fixed price. You can also take advantage of eBay’s price history to see what similar LEGO items have sold for.

Plus, another great thing about eBay is that nearly everyone has heard of eBay, so you have a lot of casual browsers on the site who may be searching for Legos.

3. Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace is a great option for LEGO sellers because you can sell items locally for free or via shipping nationwide. This may be more convenient for sellers who are looking to sell items right away and make money quickly.

Other benefits of selling Legos via Facebook Marketplace include:

  • You keep 100% of the profit when selling directly to buyers (such as when you meet up with them in a parking lot).
  • If you use Facebook checkout for shipping, there may be small fees, but they are usually lower than eBay fees.
  • Buyers pick up items in person, saving you time and money on shipping.

When meeting someone in person from Facebook, always go with your gut and stay safe. Meet in a safe, public area that is well-lit. Bringing a friend or telling someone where you are is also a good idea. Many people will ask to meet right in a police department parking lot, for example.

4. Facebook groups

Facebook groups dedicated to Legos are hotspots to sell Legos because you’re getting the exact audience you want.

A few popular LEGO Facebook groups include:

  • LEGO Buy, Sell, Trade (BST)
  • LEGO Collectors & Resellers
  • Local LEGO Buy/Sell
  • General Toy Collectors

To find Facebook groups, you can search “LEGO Buy Sell Trade” or “LEGO Marketplace.” Facebook groups always have rules, so make sure to follow rules or else you’ll get kicked out of the group permanently. Respond to comments and messages quickly and perhaps try bundling items so you can sell and make more money.

Another idea similar to this is to find LEGO forums. These typically have a lot of potential buyers (just like LEGO Facebook groups) and are filled with the right buyers.

5. Mercari

Mercari is a great site to sell Legos because of how easy it is to use and its low fees. Currently, Mercari charges a 10% seller fee. You get access to a wide pool of buyers, including collectors and LEGO lovers.

Creating a Mercari listing is easy and straightforward. Once your account is made, you can upload high-quality photos of your Legos, write a description, and set a price. Then, just choose your shipping method (Mercari provides discounted shipping labels), and you can accept offers from buyers. Once your product is sold, you’ll ship the item using the provided label and get paid directly to your bank account.

6. Craigslist

Craigslist is one of the most simple and user-friendly platforms out there and you’ve probably already used it before. There are no fees to sell on Craigslist and you sell locally only, which also means you have to be comfortable meeting with someone in person.

Just like any other platform, there are scams, so it’s important to stay aware and stick with your gut when it comes to selling stuff on here.

Here are some of the best tips for successfully selling things on Craigslist:

  • Use a clear, descriptive title with specific details (for example, “LEGO Star Wars Set 75292 – Complete with Minifigures”).
  • Take high-quality, well-lit photos of the actual item and key features.
  • Provide a concise description with key details (set number, condition, missing parts, etc.).
  • Repost your listing regularly to keep it visible.
  • Use relevant keywords for better visibility in search results.
  • Be transparent about any issues or missing parts.

Now, there is one big downside to selling on Craigslist and that is that it can be hard for people to see your ad. So, you may not make much money and it may take longer. And, if you live in a small town, then no one may be looking for Legos to buy either.

7. Garage sale

Selling Legos at a garage sale (or yard sale) is a great way to get rid of them quickly and conveniently. This may be a good option if you have a lot to get rid of and you’re simply looking to declutter easily.

You can group your LEGO sets together (even better if you have the instruction manuals) and display them in clear containers or bags. You can sell bundle deals like “$5 for small sets” or “$10 for large sets.” This is a great idea to get rid of things more quickly.

Here are some tips for a successful garage sale:

  • Post the event details of your garage sale on Facebook Marketplace, Facebook groups, and local community boards.
  • Set clear dates and times, with weekends usually being best.
  • Group similar items together for easy browsing.
  • Use price tags or signs and be prepared to negotiate.

These tips will help make your garage sale more organized and successful!

8. Amazon

If you have a lot of new LEGO sets and inventory, you can try selling LEGO sets on Amazon too. Amazon is one of the best sites for selling sealed, brand-new LEGO sets, especially if they are retired or rare (you can see an example of them for sale on Amazon by clicking here). Some sets can sell for double or even triple their original retail price due to high demand from collectors.

There are two main ways to sell LEGO sets on Amazon:

  • Amazon Marketplace (Individual Seller Account) – If you have only a few sets to sell, you can list them under the existing LEGO product listings on Amazon. You’ll set your own price and fulfill orders yourself by shipping directly to buyers.
  • Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) – If you want a hands-off approach, you can send your LEGO sets to an Amazon warehouse. Amazon will store them, ship them to customers, and handle customer service. However, FBA fees can cut into your profit, so be sure to calculate costs before choosing this route.

One of the biggest benefits of selling on Amazon is its huge customer base. Millions of people shop on Amazon daily, so if your LEGO sets are priced competitively, they can sell quickly.

However, Amazon has strict rules about selling toys, including LEGO sets. You may need approval to sell in the Toys & Games category, and your seller account must be in good standing. If you’re selling during the holiday season, Amazon may require additional verification to make sure that your items are real.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some common questions about where to sell old Legos.

Is it worth selling old Legos?

Yes, I think it is worth it to sell your old Legos because there is a high demand for rare LEGO sets. Even old or discounted LEGO sets can sell for a lot of money, especially if they’re in good condition. If you have items that are incomplete, they may even have value depending on the set. Rare minifigures may be in demand by collectors and builders. And, if you have a ton of Legos and they’re mixed bricks, you can still make money selling them in bulk locally or online.

Where is the best place to sell Legos?

The best place to sell Legos depends on what your goals are. For example, if you want to get rid of stuff quickly and conveniently, selling on Facebook Marketplace or having a garage sale might be the way to go. However, you won’t make the most money that way. If you want to make the most money but put your time and effort in, platforms like eBay or Bricklink may be more worth it as the audience and demand is there.

How much is 20 pounds of Legos worth?

If you want to sell Legos by the pound, you have options. Twenty pounds of Legos can go for a little or a lot depending on the rarity and quality of the Legos. If you’re selling a mixed lot of unsorted Legos in bulk, that’ll probably go for anywhere between $50 and $200. If your 20 pounds includes rare and in-demand sets, it could be worth over $200.

How to sell unwanted LEGO sets?

If you’re having trouble selling old LEGO sets, there are a few things you can do, including:

  • Sort and clean the set (check for missing pieces and clean off any dust or dirt).
  • Gather the instructions and box (if possible, as it increases value).
  • Price the set (research similar listings on eBay, BrickLink, etc., and factor in condition; new sets are worth more, but used sets with complete pieces still have value. Offer bundle discounts for multiple sets).
  • Create a detailed listing (include high-quality photos, provide an honest description of condition, and specify shipping details).
  • Be ready to negotiate (buyers may want to haggle, so decide if you’re open to offers).

Where to sell used LEGO in bulk?

The best sites to sell used Legos in bulk include eBay (since you can reach an international audience who are looking for your exact Legos) or Facebook Marketplace (since you can sell locally or ship nationwide).

Does LEGO buy back old Legos?

LEGO Group does not buy old Legos, but they do have a LEGO Replay program that allows you to donate used sets to charity. The sets you send in need to be cleaned, sorted, and then can be donated to children in need. You can also donate your old Legos to local charities, schools, or community centers.

Will pawn shops buy Legos?

Pawn shops usually don’t buy Legos, but some shops may be willing to buy them if they’re a rare set or in really good condition. The price these shops offer will likely be a lot lower than if you sold your Legos yourself, since the pawn shop needs to make a profit off selling your Legos. But, it can’t hurt to call some pawn shops in your area and ask if they buy them if you want an easier way to sell your old Legos.

Can I donate my old Legos?

If you’re ready to get rid of your Legos for good and don’t feel like going through the hassle of selling them, donating them to a thrift store is a great option. Whether you have complete sets in the original box, bulk Legos, accessories, or even if they have scratches, you can most likely donate them. Kids and parents are always looking for Legos (they are usually kids’ favorite toys after all), especially since they’re so expensive when they are brand new.

Where To Sell Old Legos for Cash – Summary

I hope you enjoyed my article on the best places to sell your old Legos. As you read, there are so many great places to sell Legos, and it can be a fun way to make extra money.

I had so many Legos as a kid and I wonder what happened to them all. I’m sure they would be worth something today. And, one of my friends has tubs and tubs of old Legos in their parent’s basement (probably well over 50 pounds worth!), and maybe they will think about selling them.

If you’re ready to get rid of your Legos and make some extra money, there are many platforms to sell your old toys. Whether you want to start selling LEGO sets, minifigures, retired sets, rare sets, or even bulk Legos, you have so many options.

Do you want to earn more money without working long hours or learning new skills? A low effort side hustle can be a good way to make extra income while fitting around your busy life.

Many people think that side hustles require a bunch of time or effort, but there are plenty of options that don’t need much from you. Some of these require only a few minutes of your day, while others can bring in passive income over time.

I have always loved finding easy ways to make extra money. Over the years, I’ve tried many different side hustles, such as getting cash back on things I was already going to buy, playing games on my phone for real money, or renting out items I don’t use often. So, yes, there are many real ways to make extra money and not be tired all the time.

Best Low Effort Side Hustles

Before I get to my favorite low effort side hustles, let’s quickly talk about what makes a side hustle low effort.

A low effort side hustle may be one that:

  • Requires little to no money to get started
  • Can be done on a flexible schedule
  • Doesn’t need much training or skills
  • Has passive or semi-passive income potential

Now, that doesn’t mean that all of these will be easy for everyone (because everyone is different), but you may be able to find one that fits your lifestyle.

1. Take online surveys

Taking online surveys is one of the easiest low effort side hustles from home.

Companies are constantly looking for opinions from people like you and me so that they can improve their products and services, and they pay for it. All you need to do is sign up for survey platforms, complete questionnaires, and earn points that can be redeemed for cash or gift cards.

Some of the survey companies I recommend include:

While each survey may only pay a few cents to a couple of dollars, the earnings can add up. Some people make an extra $50 to $100 per month by consistently taking surveys. If you stack multiple survey sites and take advantage of high-paying opportunities, you can increase your earnings too. I recently wrote about my experience at How I Made $15 in 2 Hours Taking Surveys – Is It Worth It?

The best part about online surveys is that they require almost no effort. You can answer questions while watching TV, waiting in line, or winding down at the end of the day. The questions they ask are super easy, like “How often do you go grocery shopping?” or “What is your favorite TV show?” so they are very easy to do – it’s not like you’re taking a test.

2. Sell stock photos

Stock photos are the pictures that you see within blog posts (I personally use stock photos all the time here on my blog), in brochures, in advertising, on websites, and more. Businesses use these because they need high-quality images.

If you like taking pictures, you may be able to make extra money by doing stock photography. You can take pictures of business settings, food, travel, lifestyle, and more, and upload them to sites like Depositphotos, Shutterstock, and Adobe Stock.

If you enjoy photography or graphic design, you can turn your creativity into passive income by selling stock photos or digital products. Many businesses, bloggers, and content creators are constantly looking for high-quality images and digital tools, and they’re willing to pay for them. Then, every time someone downloads a picture of yours, you can earn a commission.

3. Use cash back apps

If you’re already spending money on groceries, gas, or online shopping, then you can earn cash back on these same purchases. Cash back and rewards apps make it easy to get money back on everyday expenses with very little effort.

My favorite cash back apps are:

  • Upside (get cash back on your gas/fuel purchases)
  • Swagbucks (get cash back on most shopping – from groceries to online stores)
  • Rakuten (get cash back for online shopping and travel)

I use all three of these cash back sites, and I get cash back all the time. I recently used Upside and received $44 cash back when filling up my car. I used Rakuten recently and got $90 back on a kayak I bought online, and I use Swagbucks for my grocery receipts.

The nice thing about cash back sites is that they require no additional spending. You simply shop as you normally would and earn rewards for doing so. Over time, these small earnings add up, and some people make hundreds of dollars a year just by using these apps consistently.

4. Rent out a spare room

Many people have spare space in their homes that they do not use or just fill with clutter. If this is you, then you may want to try renting out the space to someone else.

This is a very low effort side hustle, especially if you don’t mind sharing your home with someone else.

I have rented out extra bedrooms in my home in the past, and I made around $400 per room per month, but this was also in a very low-cost-of-living area. In certain towns and cities, you may be able to earn $1,000+ each month per room that you rent out.

In fact, in a local Facebook group that I’m in, someone is renting out 3 out of the 4 bedrooms they have in their house at $1,250 a room. That means that person is making $3,750 extra each month!

5. Sell print on demand

Print-on-demand is one of the easiest ways to sell custom products without handling inventory or shipping.

This business model allows you to create designs and sell them on items like T-shirts, mugs, and phone cases, and a third-party company prints and ships the products for you.

Sites like Printify handle the fulfillment process (they print and ship the product for you), so you don’t have to worry about managing stock or packaging orders. Your job is simply to create and upload designs, and when a customer places an order (such as on Etsy), the print-on-demand company takes care of the rest.

This side hustle is perfect for anyone who enjoys graphic design or has a knack for creating catchy slogans. The more designs you upload, the higher your chances of making sales. Since everything is handled automatically, print-on-demand is a great way to earn passive income with very little ongoing effort.

I recommend signing up for the free workshop How to Make Money with Print-On-Demand. In this training, you’ll learn how one business owner made $500,000 in two years selling gifts, the best types of products to sell to maximize your earnings, and how to start this side hustle on Etsy.

6. Mystery shopping

Mystery shopping is an easy and fun side hustle for beginners where you give your feedback on stores, restaurants, or customer service experiences.

Companies hire mystery shoppers to visit locations and evaluate cleanliness, employee behavior (did the employee say hello when you entered the store or help you at all?), and overall experience.

There are several mystery shopping platforms, such as BestMark, that connect shoppers with paid opportunities.

Mystery shoppers typically receive $10 to $50 per assignment, and some gigs even reimburse purchases, making it a great way to get free meals, groceries, or products while earning cash.

I have done many, many mystery shopping jobs over the years. From phone call mystery shops to fine dining and department store evaluations, I have probably done well over 100 mystery shops over the years. I have always liked doing these because the questions you answer in the assignment afterwards are very easy to answer, and you can get free things as well (such as free food). I’ve also been on the other end as well – I worked at a retail store when I was younger, and we would have mystery shoppers come in and evaluate us.

7. Pet sit in your own home

If you love animals, pet sitting can be an enjoyable and stress-free way to make money (as long as the pets are easy, of course – and you can even be picky and choose who you want to accept).

Many pet owners prefer leaving their pets in a home environment rather than a kennel when they travel. By selling pet-sitting services in your home, you can get paid to watch dogs, cats, or other pets without having to leave your house.

Dog walking websites like Rover and Wag make it easy to set up a profile and start accepting pet-sitting gigs. You can set your own rates, choose which pets you’re comfortable watching, and even decide whether you want to do overnight stays or just daily check-ins. On average, pet sitters make $15 to $50 per pet per night, with rates increasing for additional services like dog walking or medication administration.

If you have the space and love caring for animals, this side hustle is a way to earn money with minimal effort, as most of your time will be spent simply hanging out with pets.

I have hired many pet sitters in the past, and I always only booked sitters who had fenced-in backyards, and I would actually ask them to not walk my dogs (because my dogs were not great walkers with other people – only me). So, I often had pet sitters who worked from home and just hung out with my dogs all day – and they always said it was one of their easier pet-sitting gigs.

Now, I do want to say that pet sitting isn’t always easy! Some dogs can be very difficult, untrained, and a lot of work. But, you can always interview your potential clients to make sure it’s a good fit for you. In fact, one of my favorite dog sitters had an extensive interview process – first by PDF where you filled out a questionnaire, then by phone, then in-person, before she agreed to watch your dogs. This way she could make sure it was a good fit for her lifestyle.

8. Play games on your phone

Believe it or not, you can actually make money by playing games on your phone. Certain apps pay people with cash, gift cards, or prizes for playing mobile games.

I have personally been able to make $302 in one week by playing games on my phone. You can learn more about my experience at How I Made $302.80 Playing Games on My Phone (In One Week).

My favorite game apps are:

This side hustle is perfect for anyone who likes to play games on their phone and wants to turn their hobby into a small way to make more money (it’s definitely not a full-time job, but it can make you $100+ each month). It requires no upfront investment and can be done whenever you have free time, making it one of the most effortless ways to make money.

9. Deliver food

Food delivery services are extremely popular, and they are one of the most flexible ways to earn extra money.

Companies like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart allow you to choose your own hours and work whenever it’s convenient for you.

The process is simple: sign up for an app, accept delivery requests, pick up food or groceries, and drop them off at the customer’s location (such as their house). You can work as little or as much as you want, making this side hustle great for people who just want to work when they can fit it into their schedule.

You can apply to deliver food on DoorDash here.

picture of vending machines for soda and candy for an article about low effort side hustles that actually work

10. Own vending machines

Vending machines are a way to make passive income that requires little effort once set up.

The idea is simple: buy a vending machine, stock it with snacks or drinks (or you can even get more creative and do things like baby items, fishing tackle, or makeup), place it in a high-traffic area (you’ll have to get permission of course), and collect earnings.

While vending machines require an initial investment – typically $1,000 to $5,000 per machine – they can earn $100 to $1,000+ per month depending on the location. Good locations include office buildings, schools, gyms, and shopping centers.

Once you place your vending machine at the location, they don’t require a lot of maintenance or work, other than restocking and occasional servicing (for example, if it breaks).

You can learn more at How I Make $7,000 Monthly With A Vending Machine Business.

11. Transcription work

If you can type quickly and accurately, transcription work is an easy way to make money from home. Transcribers listen to audio recordings and type them into written text for businesses, legal professionals, or content creators.

Websites like Rev and TranscribeMe list flexible transcription jobs that usually pay around 30 cents to $1 per audio minute (this is different from each minute on a normal clock FYI, so the pay actually ends up being around $15 to $20 per hour).

While transcription requires some focus because you have to listen, it doesn’t require specialized skills beyond good typing speed and attention to detail.

12. Sell printables on Etsy

Selling digital printables on Etsy is one of the best ways to earn semi-passive income.

Printables like planners, meal organizers, thank-you cards, and budgeting worksheets are in high demand, and once listed, they require little ongoing work. Yes, there is work to create the printables and list them, but after you are done with that part, it is a fairly low effort side hustle to continue to make money with the same printables.

Some Etsy sellers make $500 to $5,000 per month selling digital downloads. And, there’s no need to worry about inventory or shipping, making it an extremely low-effort way to make money online.

I recommend signing up for the free training How To Earn Money Selling Printables. You’ll learn printable ideas, how to get started on Etsy, and how to actually make sales.

13. Scan your grocery receipts

If you do grocery shopping regularly (doesn’t everyone?), why not earn money from it?

The process is simple: Take a picture of your receipt, upload it to the app, and earn points that can be redeemed for gift cards or cash. This is truly an almost zero-effort way to earn $5 to $20 per month just by doing your regular shopping.

My two favorite receipt-scanning apps are Fetch Rewards and Ibotta. I use both of these apps for every single one of my grocery receipts. I have personally been using these two receipt-scanning apps for years now – I love how easy they are to use and how you can earn points or cash while barely spending any time. Plus, I already have the receipts (it’s printed receipts or e-receipts they accept) – so it’s nice to make some extra money by doing almost nothing.

With this app, you can scan your grocery receipts (from any grocery store or wholesale club, any time) and earn free gift cards. It is free to sign up and easy to use.

14. Rent out your RV

If you own an RV, renting it out on platforms like RVshare can make you $50 to $250 per night (it depends on the type of RV you have and what rate you list it at).

Many people rent RVs for road trips but don’t want the cost of ownership. My sister and her husband have rented RVs in the past from online sites before, and they are actually preparing to do it again this year too because they have enjoyed it so much.

By listing your RV when you’re not using it, you can make passive income without much work. If you’re like most people and have an RV that sits without being used, this can be an easy way to make extra money.

You can click here to learn more about renting out your RV on RVshare.

RVShare

10

RVshare is one of the best money-making sites because it helps travelers save money by cutting out the middleman and offering RV rentals directly from RV owners. If you have an RV that is sitting around, then you may be able to make $100 to $300+ a day.

15. Sell recyclables

Recycling can be a great way to earn extra cash while helping the environment. You can sell cans, scrap metal, or even old electronics for money.

Many people collect recyclables from their own households or even from neighbors.

16. Rent out baby gear

Traveling parents usually need baby gear, and platforms like BabyQuip allow you to rent out strollers, car seats, hiking carriers, toys, and cribs for extra income.

This is a great low-maintenance side hustle that requires little effort beyond maintaining and cleaning the gear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to common questions about low effort side hustles.

What is the easiest side hustle to start?

The easiest side hustles to start depend on you, as everyone is different. Some easy ones that I like include answering online surveys, using cash back apps, renting out unused stuff you have (like a spare bedroom or even baby items), playing games on your phone, and owning vending machines.

How can I make money with minimal effort?

You can make money with minimal effort in many ways such as selling recyclables, owning vending machines, answering surveys, and even having dividend-paying stocks.

What is the best passive income for beginners?

The best passive income for beginners is something that requires little time, investment, and effort to start. I personally think selling digital products like printables, templates, or stock photos is a good and easy option because you only need to create the product once, and you can then sell it repeatedly. Another good passive income idea for beginners is, if you have extra space, renting out a room on Airbnb or storage space on Neighbor. If you’re interested in investing, dividend stocks or high-yield savings accounts can help you earn money with little maintenance as well.

How can I make money barely working?

If you want to make money and barely work, you’ll want to focus on passive income and low-maintenance side hustles like selling digital products on Etsy, renting out extra space, investing in dividend stocks, and saving your money in high-yield savings accounts.

Do you want to learn how to stop living paycheck to paycheck?

I know firsthand how hard it is to live paycheck to paycheck. There was a time when I barely had enough to cover my bills, and I constantly worried about unexpected expenses.

It’s stressful and exhausting to feel like you’re always behind, with no room to save or plan for the future. But the good news is, change is possible.

Breaking free from this cycle takes both small and big, consistent steps. By managing your money differently, you can start building a cushion, reduce stress, and take control of your finances. It’s not always easy (and at times, it may feel impossible or too late!), but even small changes can make a big difference over time.

16 Ways To Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck

Here are 16 ways to stop living paycheck to paycheck and actually start saving money.

1. Create a budget

Making a budget is an important step to stop living paycheck to paycheck.

Here are some steps for getting started with a budget:

  1. You’ll want to start by listing all your income sources, and this includes your salary, side jobs, and any other money you get regularly.
  2. Next, write down all your expenses. Don’t forget things like rent/mortgage, food, utilities, insurance, and transportation. Also add in any debt payments you have to make each month, such as for credit cards or medical bills. You want to look at this realistically and not just get an estimate – actually add up your expenses so that you have a real idea of how much you spend each month!
  3. Look at where your money is going. Are there areas where you can cut back? Maybe you can eat out less or cancel some subscriptions you don’t use much.

If you’re anything like most people, then writing all of this down can be a real eye-opener. You may not have realized that your expenses were so much or that your income was lower due to taxes or other deductions.

Looking at your budget is great because it shows you what you need to work on and what income you have to work with. It can really put things into perspective.

I also recommend that you review your budget often. Your income and expenses might change, so it’s important to keep your budget up to date. This will help you stay on track and avoid falling back into the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle.

2. Cut unnecessary expenses

After you make your budget, I really want you to take a better look at your expenses. For some, they may feel like there is nothing they can cut back. But, for others, there is probably something.

So, look at your spending habits and find areas where you can save money. This might be easier than you think.

  • Start with your subscriptions. Do you use all the streaming services you pay for? If not, cancel the ones you don’t watch. Or, maybe you can rotate and not have so many all at once so that you are only paying for one TV service at a time.
  • Next, check your food costs. Would shopping at a different grocery store save you money? Do you use coupons when you shop or shop with a grocery list?
  • Look at your bills. Can you switch to a cheaper phone plan? Maybe you can lower your energy costs by using less electricity.
  • Shopping habits matter too. Before buying something, ask yourself if you really need it. Wait a day before making big purchases.

Small changes add up. Cutting a few dollars here and there can save you a lot over time.

By reducing unnecessary expenses, you’ll have more money for savings and important things. This can help you break the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle.

how i stopped living paycheck to paycheck and saved an emergency fund

3. Build an emergency fund

An emergency fund is money you save for unexpected events. It can help you if you lose your job, your car breaks down, or have surprise medical bills.

This is because an emergency fund can stop you from taking on more debt when surprises happen (and they do all the time!). Many people fall into a paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle because they have to take on expensive credit card debt or even a payday loan because they can’t afford an unexpected expense, and unfortunately, these are very hard to dig your way out of.

An emergency fund can seem intimidating to start, but you can definitely start small. Even $500 or $1,000 can make a big difference when something goes wrong. Eventually, over time, you may want to try to save 3 to 6 months of expenses too.

I recommend that you put your emergency fund in a separate savings account. This way, you won’t mix it with your everyday money. Choose an account that’s easy to access when you need it and has a high yield.

Recommended reading: How To Start An Emergency Fund Today

4. Pay off your debt

Getting rid of debt can help you stop living paycheck to paycheck because it frees up your income.

When you’re paying off debt, a big chunk of your money goes to monthly payments and interest, leaving less for savings or other expenses. Once you’re debt-free, you can use that money to build an emergency fund, save for goals, or invest in your future. You’ll also avoid costly interest and reduce financial stress.

Paying off debt gives you more control over your money and helps you break the cycle of living paycheck to paycheck.

For me, paying off my student loans helped me to stop living paycheck to paycheck too, so I know this is helpful!

You can start by listing all your debts. This includes credit cards, car loans, student loan debt, and any other money you owe.

Then, look at the interest rates on each debt. Focus on paying off the ones with the highest rates first as this can save you money in the long run.

And, please try to pay more than the minimum amount due each month. Even a little extra can make a big difference over time. A lot of people think that paying the minimum payment on their loans each month (the amount you see at the top of your credit card bill, for example) is enough to not pay interest charges – but it’s not!

Don’t be afraid to talk to your creditors. They might be willing to lower your interest rate or work out a payment plan that fits your budget better.

5. Use cash instead of credit cards

If you’re the type of person who spends freely when using their credit card, then you may want to try using cash. This is because when you hand over real dollar bills, you feel the impact more than swiping a card. This makes you think twice about your purchases.

You can start by trying the envelope method. This is where you put cash for each spending category in separate envelopes (Amazon even sells envelope method kits here to make it more motivating, if that’s what you need). When an envelope is empty, you can’t spend more in that area.

Then, you leave your credit cards at home when you go shopping. This removes the temptation to overspend so you’ll stick to your budget better when you only have cash.

6. Automate your savings

Setting up automatic savings can help you break the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle. It’s an easy way to save money without thinking about it.

You can start by opening a separate savings account, as this keeps your savings apart from your spending money.

Then, set up automatic transfers from your checking account to your savings account. You can do this through your bank’s website or app.

Of course, you’ll want to choose an amount you can afford to save each payday. Even small amounts add up over time.

7. Prioritize your needs over wants

One way to stop living paycheck to paycheck is to focus on your needs and cut back on your wants.

You can start by listing your essential expenses, like rent, utilities, groceries, and transportation. Then, identify the nonessentials, such as dining out, streaming subscriptions, or impulse shopping.

When money is tight, prioritize your needs first. This doesn’t mean you can never enjoy your wants, but it helps to be intentional with your spending.

Then, reward yourself only after your financial goals are met, like saving a specific amount or paying off a debt. By focusing on what truly matters, you’ll create more room in your budget to save and break free from financial stress.

8. Set financial goals

Setting financial goals is a must for anyone who wants to change their financial life. This is because goals give you something to work toward and something to be motivated by.

I recommend thinking about what your goals are in life.

Do you want to buy a house? Retire? Go on a dream vacation? Buy a car? Be able to save money and have less stress? Maybe your goal is as simple as not living paycheck to paycheck.

9. Try to get a raise at work

Getting a raise can help you earn more money so that your income is higher than your monthly expenses.

My tips for getting a raise at work:

  • Start by doing great work at your job.
  • Keep track of your accomplishments and write down the good things you do at work. This will help you when you ask for a raise.
  • Talk to your boss about your goals. Ask what you can do to earn more money. They might give you tips on how to improve.
  • Practice asking for a raise. You can do this with a friend or in front of a mirror, and it will help you feel more confident when you talk to your boss.
  • Choose a good time to ask. Don’t do it when your boss is busy or stressed. Pick a time when things are going well at work.
  • Be ready to explain why you deserve more money. Talk about how you’ve helped the company and show how your work has made a difference.

If your boss says no, don’t give up. Ask what you can do to earn a raise in the future, and then work on those things and try again later.

10. Find a side hustle

A side hustle can help you earn extra money, which can help you make more money than your expenses.

The main way that I stopped living paycheck to paycheck was that I started a side hustle (this blog that you’re reading, actually! I have a free blogging course here if you want to learn how) and I applied most of my side income toward my student loans.

There are many different side hustles you can start. Some of the things I have done over the years include:

  • Blogging

11. Cook at home more often

Eating out can drain your wallet fast and cooking at home is a smart way to save money and stop living paycheck to paycheck.

Restaurant meals often cost much more than making the same food yourself. When you cook at home, you control what goes into your meals and how much you spend.

Plan your meals for the week before you go grocery shopping. This helps you buy only what you need and avoid waste. Look for sales and use coupons to save even more money on groceries.

Try making big batches of food and freezing extra portions. This gives you quick meals for busy days without the temptation to order takeout. For me, I like making extra food at dinnertime and then using the leftovers for lunch the next day. And, leftover lunch doesn’t always have to be the same! For example, if I make beef tacos for dinner, I may turn that into something slightly different the next day, such as quesadillas, taco salad, or nachos for lunch.

12. Use cash back sites

Cash back sites can help you save money on things you buy anyway. These sites give you a percentage of your purchase back as cash so it’s like getting a small discount on everything you buy.

To use cash back sites, you sign up for free. Then, you shop through their website or app. When you buy something, you earn cash back.

My favorite cash back sites are:

I personally use ALL of these cash back sites as they can be used for different types of shopping.

13. Find free entertainment

Looking for fun activities that don’t cost money can help you save.

Here are some ideas:

  • Your town likely has many free events and attractions. You can check local community calendars for free concerts, festivals, and movie screenings.
  • Parks and nature trails are great for outdoor fun at no cost. Pack a picnic and spend a day enjoying the fresh air.
  • Many museums have free admission days each month.
  • Libraries are great for free entertainment. Borrow books, movies, and music. Some even have free classes and workshops, and they even let you borrow state park passes, hiking equipment, instruments, and more.
  • Invite friends over for a game night or potluck dinner. This can be more fun and cheaper than going out.

14. Plan for future expenses

Thinking ahead can save you from money troubles.

Due to this, I recommend that you look at your calendar and think about big costs coming up. This could be things like fixing your car, buying gifts for the holidays, or car insurance payments.

You’ll want to start putting money aside now for these expenses. Even small amounts can add up over time. You might set up a special savings account just for these future costs.

This way, when the time comes to pay, you’ll be ready. You won’t have to scramble, use credit cards, or feel all of that stress that you may normally feel when your monthly expenses are higher than normal.

15. Live below your means

Living below your means means spending less than you earn, and this habit can help you save money and build wealth over time.

This may mean living in a small house, not upgrading your car as often, buying used clothing when you can, and not feeling the lifestyle creep that can happen as you get older.

16. Take advantage of free resources

You can find many free resources to help you save money.

Some examples include:

  • Look for food pantries in your area, as they give out free food to people who need it.
  • Many cities have free health and dental clinics. These can help you save on medical costs.
  • Look for free exercise classes in parks or community centers.
  • Your local government website may list more free services. These could include job training or housing help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to questions on how to stop living paycheck to paycheck.

How do you avoid living paycheck by paycheck?

To stop living paycheck to paycheck, one way is to make a budget and write down all your income and expenses. Look for areas where you can cut back, and try to save a little money each month, even if it’s just a small amount.

Is it normal for people to live paycheck to paycheck?

Many people live paycheck to paycheck. It’s common, but it’s not ideal. Just because others live paycheck to paycheck doesn’t mean that you should. Unfortunately, about 60% of Americans struggle to make ends meet each month. This can happen to people at all income levels.

Why do even people with good salaries sometimes struggle with savings?

People with high salaries can still have money problems. They might spend too much on things or have big debts. Some may not track their spending or have a budget. Others might live in expensive areas with high costs. Learning to manage money well is important no matter how much you earn.

How can I create a budget when my money is gone after paying bills?

You can still have a budget even if your money is gone after paying your bills. You can start by listing all your income and expenses. Look for any costs you can cut, like subscriptions or eating out. Try to find cheaper options for things you need. See if you can earn extra money through a side job. Put any extra cash toward savings or paying off debt. Every little bit helps!

What are some steps I can take to save my first $1,000?

To save $1,000, start small. Put aside $5 or $10 each week. Cut back on extras like coffee shops or takeout. Sell items you don’t need. Look for free activities instead of paid ones. Use coupons and shop sales. Put any extra money from work or gifts into savings. Be patient and consistent. I have a $20 Savings Challenge which can help you save $1,040 in one year here.

How can I pay off my debt living paycheck to paycheck?

Paying off debt while living paycheck to paycheck is hard but possible. First, make a list of all your debts. Pay the minimum on each one. If you can, pay extra on the highest interest rate debt. When that’s paid off, move to the next. I also recommend that you look for ways to earn extra money to put toward debt, as well as talk to your creditors about lower interest rates or payment plans.

How To Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck – Summary

I hope you enjoyed my article on how to stop living paycheck to paycheck.

Living paycheck to paycheck is tough, but it doesn’t have to be forever. I know because I’ve been there too. There was a time when I barely had enough to cover my bills, and unexpected expenses felt like financial disasters. It was stressful and exhausting, and I remember crying over the money challenges that I faced (things as big as car repairs and medical issues, all the way to small things like food spoiling in the fridge and accidentally wasting that money).

By taking the steps above, you can start to regain control of your finances and afford your living expenses better so that you can improve your financial future. Create a budget, cut back on unnecessary expenses, and prioritize building an emergency fund. Focus on paying off debt to free up your income, and find ways to earn extra money, like starting a side hustle.

Remember, change doesn’t happen overnight, but every step you take gets you closer to financial freedom.

Are you looking for the best place to sell old coins?

We’ve all looked at an old coin at some point and wondered, ‘Is this worth anything?’ Whether it’s a rare find from pocket change, a unique gift from a relative, or a long-forgotten collection, old coins can sometimes be worth something.

I remember the first time I found a few coins that were passed down to me. At first, I had no idea where to start, but I quickly learned that these small pieces of history could actually be worth something.

Whether you’re looking to sell vintage treasures passed down to you or have a collection you’re ready to get rid of, these coins may be worth more than you think. This can be a great way to make extra money!

Best Places To Sell Old Coins

Below are the best places to sell old coins.

Recommended reading: Where To Cash Coins Near Me

1. Local coin shops

Local coin shops are the most straightforward option for selling old coins. You can start by researching the value of your coins using online guides, price books, or coin grading services.

When visiting local coin shops, bring your coins in a neatly organized manner which makes sure they’re shown in the best condition. Bring any important certifications or documents about your coins. The dealer has an appraisal process and may even give you free evaluations.

I do recommend that you get quotes from several coin shops to make sure you’re getting a fair price for your coins. Keep in mind, that coin shops need to make a profit, so their offer will be lower than retail value. However, selling your coins at a local coin shop can save you time and hassle of online listings or auctions.

2. Coin shows

Coin shows are a way to sell coins directly to collectors in a marketplace. You can research upcoming coin shows and check exhibitor lists to get an idea if the event attracts buyers interested in your type of coins.

Then, organize your collection and bring any relevant documentation to help build buyer confidence. When arriving at coin shows, visit dealer tables and ask if they are interested in purchasing your coins. If selling directly to attendees, you’d need to rent a booth to show your coin collection.

This method of selling old coins is great if you want to get fair prices and engage with people who are enthusiastic about coins.

3. eBay

eBay is a popular option to sell old coins (and to sell any other stuff) since the site reaches people all around the world.

You can get started by creating an eBay seller account if you don’t already have one. Then, take high-quality photos of your coins, capturing both sides of the coins and any unique details.

The listing description should include any information about the coin’s condition, year, mint mark, and certifications. You can choose to set a price or auction depending on your selling strategy.

My sister has sold many items on eBay over the years (as well as other people I know), and it’s a great place to sell items to a worldwide audience.

4. Heritage Auctions

Heritage Auctions is a global platform for collectors who buy and sell rare or valuable pieces.

To get started, visit the Heritage Auctions website and submit a free appraisal request. You simply just tell them what you want to sell with a quick description of your coins. Then, upload high-quality photos of your coins.

Heritage Auctions experts will look at your coin collection and recommend the best auction format, including live auctions, internet-only sales, or private transactions.

Once your coins are accepted, Heritage Auctions will handle cataloging, photography, and marketing to attract buyers. They do charge a seller’s commission which is deducted from the final sale price.

5. APMEX

APMEX (American Precious Metals Exchange) is a platform for people who want to sell bullion, rare coins, or collectible currency.

You can simply just go to the APMEX website and go to their “Sell to Us” page. This page allows you to submit an online quote or to give them a phone call.

Once you accept the quote, you’ll receive shipping instructions. Once APMEX receives your coins, they’ll verify the coins and finalize the offer to you. They send payment via check, wire transfer, or direct deposit.

6. JM Bullion

JM Bullion has a secure process for people wanting to sell bullion coins.

To get started selling on JM Bullion, go to their “Sell to Us” page, where you can also review their current buyback prices. These prices are updated regularly to match current market conditions. The “Sell to Us” page lets you select the type of products you want to sell, how much you’re selling, and your personal information. So, this site makes it super easy to sell your coins!

Once the sale is agreed upon, JM Bullion will provide shipping instructions to make sure that your coins arrive safely. They’ll verify the quality and weight of your coins before finalizing the transaction. Payment is sent via check or bank transfer.

7. Cash For Gold USA

Cash For Gold USA is a convenient option if you’re looking to sell your coins quickly. You can get started by visiting their website and requesting a free appraisal kit. Once you receive the kit, you can put your coins in the package (Cash For Gold USA insures shipments up to $100,000 which helps give you peace of mind).

Once the package is received, their experts will take a look at your coins and determine their value based on metal content, weight, and current market prices. After the appraisal, you’ll receive an offer, which you can deny or accept.

At times, they also give out a bonus for your coin. For example, when I looked at their site recently, they were giving a 10% bonus. So, if they offer you $100, then they are going to give you $110 total.

Cash For Gold USA pays out via check, wire transfer, or PayPal.

8. Coin World Marketplace

Coin World Marketplace is a site where you can connect with a community of coin collectors from around the world.

To get started selling your coins on Coin World Marketplace, create an account on their platform and register as a seller. Then, you will just need to organize your coins, gather certifications, and take high-quality photos to post on their website.

Once your coins are listed, you can talk with potential buyers and I recommend that you answer their questions quickly. Transactions are typically handled through the platform, which makes it safe and secure for both the coin seller and coin buyer.

9. Stacks & Bowers

Stacks & Bowers is a platform where serious collectors CAN go to find rare or valuable pieces. You can just go to their “Sell and Consign” page where you can consign now or request an appraisal.

You’ll have to give them all the details about your coins, including mint marks, certifications, or historical significance.

10. GreatCollections

GreatCollections is a popular site that connects collectors with sellers. You can sell both coins and paper money on this site.

To sell your coins on this site, you can just submit your coins for an appraisal through their website or by contacting them directly. If accepted, the platform will handle every part of the selling process, including photography and marketing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the most commonly asked questions about selling old coins for money.

Where is the best place to sell my coins?

The best place to sell your coins depends on the type, value, and your preferred selling method (some are much easier than others!).

Some of the most popular places to sell coins include local coin shops and eBay due to the convenience and quick way to sell a collection of old coins.

If you want to get the most profit for your coin collection, visit an online platform that specializes in selling coin collections like Heritage Auctions or APMEX.

Who gives the most money for old coins?

The value of old coins depends on several factors, including rarity, condition, historical significance, and market demand. If you want to make the most money, I recommend looking into selling your coins at auction houses like Heritage Auctions.

How do I find out what my coins are worth?

To find out what your coins are worth, you can use online resources like coin price guides or online coin valuation tools like Coin Value Checker. You can also get an appraisal from a professional at a local coin shop.

All kinds of coins can be worth something, such as nickels, dimes, pennies, silver bullion, palladium coins, half dollars, ancient coins (such as Roman currency), proof sets, and more. One rare coin, for example, is the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle.

How to sell coins without getting ripped off?

To sell coins without getting ripped off, it’s important to know and learn as much about the coin as you can before selling anything. So, this means that you should identify your coins, get an appraisal, or use free online coin value sites. You can also check previous auctions to see what similar coins sold for.

I also recommend that you take your coins to get multiple appraisals at coin shops or coin dealers. This will give you an idea of what to expect.

How much is a 1965 quarter worth?

The value of a 1965 quarter depends on its condition, if the coins have special features, or if the coins are rare and uncirculated. 1965 quarters in pristine, uncirculated condition sell for as much as $5,000+, whereas circulated 1965 quarters only go for less than $1.

Where to sell old coins online?

There are many places to sell old coins including eBay, Heritage Auctions, GreatCollections, and APMEX. Each way has a different appraisal process and takes different fees.

Where to sell old coins for cash?

To sell old coins for cash, the best options include local coin shops, pawn shops, online bullion dealers, or auction houses like Heritage Auctions.

Who buys old coins near me?

Local coin shops, pawn shops, and coin shows are some of the best places to sell old coins near you.

Where To Sell Old Coins – Summary

I hope you enjoyed my article on the best places to sell old coins, such as silver coins, gold coins, large collections, mint sets, paper currency, and even just single coins that you may have.

Whether you have a coin-collecting hobby or you just came across a coin that you think may be worth something, there are many ways to sell coins online and in person so that you can make the most money.

As you can see, there are many ways and places to sell old coins. Where you decide to sell depends on how fast you’re trying to get rid of your coins, how much profit you want to make, and the level of convenience you’re looking for.

How Working From Home Changed My Life (And How You Can Do It Too!)

Years ago, I never thought I’d be working from home, setting my own schedule, and earning more than I ever did in a traditional job. Years ago, I never thought I’d be working from home, setting my own schedule, and earning more than I ever did in a traditional job.

Like many people, I thought working from home was just a dream, something just for a lucky few or those in specific industries (like computers).

But today, I can say that working from home has completely changed my life.

Before I became a full-time blogger and online business owner, I worked a normal 8-to-5 job. While I was grateful for the stable income, I felt trapped in a schedule that didn’t allow for any flexibility. I was always tired from commuting, had little time for hobbies, and felt like I was always waiting for the weekend (and I absolutely dreaded Sunday nights due to working the next day).

Fast forward to today, and I now work from home full-time, set my own hours, and have created multiple streams of income. Working from home has not only allowed me to reach financial freedom but has also given me more time to spend with family, to travel, and enjoy life.

If you’ve ever thought about working from home, I want to share with you the biggest reasons I love it and how you can start your own online job or business too.

The Top Reasons I Love Working From Home

Below are the top reasons I love working at home.

1. Complete flexibility over my schedule

Okay, so not all work-from-home jobs will give you complete flexibility, but many will!

One of the biggest reasons I love working from home is the freedom to set my own schedule. Unlike a traditional job where I had to be at my desk at a specific time every day, working from home allows me to work when I’m most productive.

Some days, I start working early in the morning, while other days, I might take the morning off and work in the afternoon, or I may work late at night. If I want to take a break in the middle of the day for a walk, a workout, or even a long lunch with family, I can do that – without asking for permission.

Having control over my schedule also means I can adjust my work hours based on my energy levels. Some people are most productive in the morning, while others do their best work at night. For me, it varies.

2. More time for family and personal life

Before I worked from home, I tended to feel like I didn’t have enough time for the things that mattered most – spending time with family, traveling, or even just enjoying simple moments at home.

Now, working from home has allowed me to be more present for my family.

I don’t have to miss important milestones or feel guilty about not spending enough time with loved ones. Whether it’s having breakfast together, taking midday breaks to play with my child, or being home in the evenings without rushing through dinner, I finally feel like I have a work-life balance that makes sense. (Of course, at times I feel like I have no work-life balance because it can be hard to separate work and life when you work from home, but that’s not the focus of this blog post, because in general, I do feel like the balance is better for me).

Working from home has also given me more time for personal hobbies and self-care. I no longer feel like my entire day is dictated by work. Instead, I can spend time being outdoors, traveling, or learning new skills – things I never had time for when I worked in a traditional office job. For example, when the weather is great, I will almost always choose to be outside (usually hiking, biking, or on our boat), instead of working. And then I save work for later – simply because I can just move around my workday!

3. No commute = more time and less stress

This is definitely one of my favorite things about working from home – no commute!

Commuting was one of my least favorite parts of my old job. Sitting in traffic, dealing with bad weather, and wasting hours each week just getting to and from work was exhausting.

I still remember the one time I sat in such bad traffic getting to work – it took me 3 hours (I literally was on the highway from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.) to go about 15 miles because of morning traffic (and maybe some construction? I can’t remember exactly why it was so awful that day).

My normal commute was about 30 minutes each way, which meant I spent around 1 hour driving each day and 9 hours at work – for a total of 10 hours a day for 5 days a week. While I get that this is completely normal, I just knew it wasn’t for me.

By working from home, I’ve completely eliminated my commute, which has saved me time, money, and stress. Instead of spending time stuck in traffic, I can use that time for things that actually matter to me, whether it’s working on my business, going for a hike, or simply enjoying a slower morning.

The financial savings from eliminating a commute are also significant. Gas, car maintenance (I still have a car, but I put a lot less miles on it!), work attire, and eating out for lunch all add up, and I’ve saved thousands of dollars per year by working from home.

4. Unlimited earning possibilities

One of the biggest downsides of a traditional job is that your income is limited.

Even with promotions and raises, there’s usually a limit to how much you can earn. But when you work from home – whether through a business or freelancing, you have the opportunity to increase your income in ways that wouldn’t be possible in a typical job.

Blogging started as a side hustle but eventually grew into a multi-million-dollar business. Unlike a job where I had to wait for a raise, I was able to scale my income by adding multiple income streams, such as affiliate marketing, selling digital products, sponsored posts, and ad revenue.

I never thought that I would be making the amount of money that I am making today. It never even crossed my mind. But, now I know that it is possible, and I’ve been doing it for about a decade.

I worked and had this view for about one week! Picture of palm trees and the beach
I worked and had this view for about one week!

5. Work from anywhere

Another amazing thing about working from home is that you’re not actually tied to one place.

I’ve worked while traveling across the U.S. in an RV (I lived in an RV for about 5 years full-time), living on a sailboat (I lived on a sailboat for about 5 years full-time as well), and even spending extended time in different locations.

Whether you want to work from your local coffee shop, move to a lower-cost-of-living area, or travel full-time, working from home gives you that freedom.

1. Blogging

Blogging is one of my favorite ways to earn money from home. It allows you to create content, build an audience, and monetize through ads, affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, and digital products.

While blogging takes time to grow, it can become an amazing long-term income source. I have personally earned more than $5,000,000 over the years from the blog you are reading right now (Making Sense of Cents).

2. Freelance writing

Freelance writing is one of the best ways to start making money from home.

Businesses, websites, entrepreneurs, and more need content for blogs, social media, emails, and websites, and they pay for high-quality writing.

You don’t need a journalism degree to start (in fact, most freelance writers do not have this degree). Many successful freelance writers start with no experience by building a portfolio and finding clients on job platforms.

New freelance writers can earn anywhere from $50 to $200 per article, with some experienced writers making over $1,000 per article.

I have been a freelance writer for years, and I definitely never thought that I would become a paid writer one day.

3. Selling printables on Etsy

Printables are digital products like planners, budgeting worksheets, wall art, coloring pages, invitations, and calendars that people can download and print.

I have bought many, many printables over the years (more than ever now that I have a child), and I don’t see this going away anytime soon.

Once you create a printable, you can sell it over and over again, making it a great semi-passive income source.

Many Etsy sellers earn thousands of dollars per month selling printables, and some scale their business to six figures per year.

The flexibility of this job makes it a great fit for stay-at-home parents, travelers, or anyone looking for a remote side hustle.

I was a virtual assistant for several years and I really enjoyed the job. I mainly managed email inboxes and social media, but there are so many other things you can do as a virtual assistant.

Now, I have a virtual assistant and she is a lifesaver. I have no idea what I’d do without her. Print-on-demand works by allowing you to upload designs to a platform. When a customer places an order, a third-party company prints and ships the product for you, so this means you don’t need to invest in inventory (or store anything at your house!).

How To Decide What Business To Start in 8 Simple Steps

Are you wondering how to decide what business to start? One of the most common questions I receive is from people asking me what kind of business they should start. I’ve been running my own business for over 10 years, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in…

Are you wondering how to decide what business to start?

One of the most common questions I receive is from people asking me what kind of business they should start.

I’ve been running my own business for over 10 years, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in life. My business started out as a way to make extra income and has now been my full-time job for around a decade. I’ve since made well over $5,000,000 over the years with my business, and I love being a small business owner.

Running your own business can give you freedom, flexibility, and the opportunity to do something you’re passionate about. But with so many options out there, it can be hard to figure out where to start.

In this article, I’ll show you the steps to decide what kind of business is right for you. Whether you’re just starting to dream about being your own boss or you’re ready to take the leap, these tips will help you make the best decision.

Best Steps To Decide What Business To Start

Below are my tips on how to choose a business idea.

1. Think about your skills and interests

One of the first things to think about when starting a business is what you’re already good at and what you enjoy doing.

When I first started my blog, I realized that writing and helping others with personal finance were things I was truly passionate about. This realization made it easy for me to stay motivated and turn my hobby into a successful business.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What do I enjoy doing in my free time?
  • What am I passionate about?
  • What are my strengths and skills?
  • What do people usually ask me for help with?

For example, if you’re great at baking and love trying new recipes, starting a home bakery or selling baked goods online could be a good fit. If you’re good with computers, then maybe there’s an app that you want to create that you think people would benefit from.

One question I receive a lot related to this step is: Do you need to be passionate about a business idea?

Here’s what I think: I don’t think you always have to be super passionate about what you’re doing. Maybe you’re passionate about what a possible business idea will allow you to do instead – such as being able to have a flexible schedule, being able to make money, or helping people solve a specific problem. Or, maybe you’re just really good at something and you know that you can turn it into a successful business idea!

Some of the most successful businesses are built on skills or knowledge rather than passion. For example, you might not feel strongly about bookkeeping, but if you’re great with numbers and there’s a demand for your services, it can still be a profitable and fulfilling business. Passion can grow over time as you see the impact your business has on others and the lifestyle it creates for you.

2. Research market demand

Once you have an idea in mind, the next step is to make sure there’s a demand for it.

Even if you’re passionate about something, it’s important to make sure that people are willing to pay for it. After all, you do need to make money so that you can pay your bills.

Here are some ways to research market demand:

  • Use tools like Google Trends to see if people are searching for your business idea.
  • Read forums and social media groups where your target market hangs out. Look for questions people are asking or problems they’re trying to solve.
  • Check out competitors in your niche. If there are other businesses selling similar products or services, that’s a good sign that there’s a market for it.

You can also talk directly to potential customers, such as by asking friends, family, or online communities (such as local Facebook groups or online forums) for feedback on your business idea. For example, in a local Facebook group that I am in, someone recently posted a question and shared their business idea and simply asked who would use it and if the community thought it was needed. The person got a lot of great feedback, and I saw that about one week later, they did move forward and start their business.

3. Figure out start up costs

Not all businesses require the same amount of money, time, or resources to get started.

Some businesses can be started with little to no money, while others may need a large amount of money up front. Before you decide on a business plan, it’s important to think about what you can realistically afford. I wish anyone could start any business they dream of, but that’s not reality.

For my blog, I started with very low costs in the beginning and upgraded as I grew. I didn’t have a lot of money when I started this as a side hustle, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money either.

Here are some examples of the differences:

  • Low-cost business ideas: Freelancing, blogging, selling digital products like printables, or tutoring.
  • Higher-cost business ideas: Opening a retail store, starting a food truck, or manufacturing a product.

Along with start-up costs, you may also want to think about if you want to get started with a bank loan for your business. Of course, this does come with more risk, as I will talk about next.

4. Think about how much risk you want

Starting a business always comes with some level of risk, so it’s important to think about how much risk you’re comfortable with.

Some businesses are more stable and predictable, while others can be riskier but have higher potential rewards.

When I left my full-time job to blog full-time, it felt risky, but I had already built a steady income from my blog as a side hustle, which made the transition smoother. Plus, a blogging business is pretty affordable to start, so it really didn’t seem too risky.

But, other businesses can be much more risky. They may require you to spend a lot of money to get started or even require you to get a business loan.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Am I okay with financial uncertainty? Do I need a stable income each month?
  • How much time can I dedicate to this business?
  • Do I need to get a business loan?
  • Do I want to start small as a side hustle or go all in?

If you’re nervous about risk, you may want to try starting a low-risk business like freelancing or selling digital products. You can also start your business as a side hustle while keeping your full-time job, which allows you to test the waters without fully committing right away.

5. Think about your long term goals

It’s important to think about how your business will fit into your life long-term. The type of business you choose should align with your goals and the lifestyle you want to create.

One thing that I have always really liked about blogging is that it’s a business that allows me to travel and work from anywhere. I also really enjoy the flexibility in my schedule.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I want to work full-time, part-time, or seasonally?
  • Do I want to be on call 24/7?
  • What kind of work-life balance do I want?
  • Do I want to eventually sell this business?
  • How much time and energy am I willing to invest in the long run?

For example, if you want flexibility to travel, an online business like blogging or e-commerce might be a good choice. If you’re looking for a steady income with less involvement, then a business model like renting out property or running vending machines could be a good option.

6. Brainstorm business ideas

Now that you’ve thought about your skills, market demand, resources, risk tolerance, and goals, it’s time to brainstorm different business ideas.

Here are some categories to help you brainstorm:

I recommend that you make a list of potential ideas and narrow them down to a few that excite you the most.

7. Test your idea

Before committing to a business, it’s a good idea to test it out. Testing allows you to see if your idea is actually possible and to get feedback from real customers.

Because I started my business as a side hustle, I was able to fully test it out and see if I could make money with it before leaving my day job. I think this was really great so that I could make sure it would actually work!

Here are some other ways to test your business idea:

  • Create a simple prototype or sell a small version of your service.
  • Use social media to promote your idea and see how people respond.
  • Set up a landing page to gauge interest and collect email addresses.
  • See if you can find a job at a related company to see if you like the industry.

Testing helps you avoid wasting time and money on an idea that may not work. Plus, it gives you the chance to make improvements before launching on a larger scale.

8. Make a plan and take action

Once you’ve tested your idea, it’s time to make a plan. Even if it’s a simple one-page business plan, having a plan will help you stay focused and organized.

When I started my blog, I wrote down a simple plan outlining the topics I wanted to cover, how I would attract readers, and ways to eventually monetize. This plan helped me stay focused and organized.

Your plan may include:

  • Your business idea and target audience
  • A basic budget and funding plan
  • Marketing and sales strategies

After that, it’s all about taking action. Remember, you don’t have to have everything perfect to start. The most important thing is to take the first step and learn as you go.

Wondering if Empower is the right tool to help you track your net worth, budget, and investments? This Empower Review will break down everything you need to know.

Keeping track of your money can feel overwhelming, especially when you have multiple bank accounts, credit cards, and investments. That’s why I love using financial tools and money apps that help simplify the process.

One of the best free sites for managing your finances in one place is Empower (formerly called Personal Capital).

I first reviewed Personal Capital years ago, and since then, they’ve rebranded to Empower. They still have their popular free financial dashboard.

In this review, I’ll cover everything you need to know about Empower, such as how it works, who it’s best for, and whether or not it’s worth using. I’ll also share my personal experience and some tips to make the most of the free tools offered by Empower.

My Empower Review

Below you will learn what I think about this popular financial planning tool.

What is Empower?

Empower is a financial services company that provides the free Empower Personal Dashboard financial tracking tool and helps over 18 million people. Whether you’re saving for your honeymoon or for retirement, Empower can help you save smarter and spend better.

The platform gives you a complete financial snapshot by allowing you to link all of your bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and investment accounts in one place.

Empower is best for:

  • People who want to track their net worth without spreadsheets.
  • Budgeters who want to see where their money is going.
  • Investors who want to analyze fees and portfolio performance.
  • Anyone planning for retirement and looking for projections based on real data.

Empower also provides wealth management services, which is a paid financial advising service for users with over $100,000 in investable assets. However, you don’t have to sign up for that to take advantage of their free tools.

How is Empower helpful for the average person?

You might be wondering, “Is Empower useful if I don’t have a ton of investments?”

The short answer is YES. Even if you’re just getting started with managing your finances, with Empower:

  • You can track all your money in one place instead of checking multiple apps.
  • The budgeting tool shows you exactly where your money goes each month.
  • You’ll get a better understanding of your cash flow – how much you’re bringing in vs. how much you’re spending.
  • You can find hidden investment fees that could be costing you thousands over time.
  • The retirement planner helps you set goals and see if you’re on track.

Whether you’re trying to pay off debt, invest smarter, or plan for retirement, Empower makes it easier to stay on top of your finances.

How does Empower work?

To get started with Empower, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Sign up for a free account on the Empower website.
  2. Link your financial accounts, including checking, savings, credit cards, loans, and investments.
  3. Empower will automatically pull in your financial data and categorize transactions.
  4. You can view your net worth, track your spending, analyze your investments, and more from your personal dashboard.

One of my favorite things about Empower is that it automatically updates your accounts daily, so you don’t have to enter transactions manually like you would with a spreadsheet.

Main Tools You Can Use on Empower

Below are the main tools you can use on the Empower platform:

1. Free financial dashboard

The dashboard is where all of your financial information comes together. You can see:

  • Your net worth (assets vs. liabilities)
  • Your cash flow (income vs. spending)
  • Your investment balances and performance
  • Tips on how you can improve your finances

The free Empower budgeting tool isn’t as detailed as some other budgeting tools, but it’s great for an overall look at your spending.

  • Automatically categorizes transactions
  • Tracks your monthly cash flow so you know if you’re overspending
  • Shows how much you spend in different categories like groceries, restaurants, and shopping

  • Whether you’re properly diversified
  • If you’re paying too much in fees

4. Retirement planner

One of the most interesting free tools from Empower is the Retirement Planner. It helps you:

  • See if you’re on track for retirement based on your current savings rate.
  • Test different scenarios (retiring early, increasing savings, etc.).
  • Plan for major financial events like buying a house or having kids.
  • There is even a recession simulator so that you can see how your retirement plan would have been impacted by a recession (such as in 2008).

I think this is a nice tool to have because you can easily see how different actions can impact you.

5. Retirement Fee Analyzer

Many people don’t realize how much they’re losing to investment fees. The free Empower Retirement Fee Analyzer:

  • Shows how much you’re paying in fees on your 401(k), IRA, and other retirement accounts.
  • Calculates how fees will impact your savings over time.
  • Helps you find lower-cost alternatives if your fees are too high.

This is an easy way to save thousands of dollars over time without making huge changes.

6. Empower wealth management (paid service)

The wealth management service at Empower is for people with over $100,000 in investable assets. If you choose to sign up, you get:

  • A dedicated financial advisor to help you create a plan
  • Retirement planning help

And more.

There is a cost for this, and it depends on your balance.

I personally do not use this service because I manage everything on my own, and I like to save my money this way instead of paying a percentage (which adds up to a lot of money over a lifetime!).

If you just want the free financial dashboard as well as the other tools listed above, you do NOT need to sign up for this service.

Also, if you have over $100,000 listed in your Empower dashboard, then you will most likely receive phone calls from Empower asking if you’d like to sign up – still, you do not need to sign up if you don’t want/need this service. You can tell them no.

Some people may find value in this service – it just depends on what you are looking for.

Pros and Cons of Empower

Below are the pros and cons of Empower.

Pros:

  • Free to use for tracking net worth and spending
  • Great for investment and retirement planning
  • Helps identify hidden fees in your investments
  • Easy-to-use dashboard with helpful images to see how you’re doing

Cons:

  • Financial advisors from Empower may reach out if you link more than $100K in assets (some people may find this annoying, but you can simply tell them you are not interested if you don’t want to sign up for this). I think I’ve received maybe 2 or 3 calls over the years, so not very many.
  • Budgeting tool isn’t as detailed as other apps.
  • Some people may not feel comfortable linking their accounts.

How To Get Started With Empower

Getting started with Empower is easy. You just:

  1. Sign up for a free account here.
  2. Link your financial accounts to get a complete money picture.
  3. Start tracking your net worth, spending, and investments today!

Frequently Asked Questions About Empower

Below are answers to common questions about Empower.

Is Empower safe to use?

Yes! Empower uses bank-level encryption and two-factor authentication to keep your data secure. They can’t move your money – they just track it. I have personally connected and added my own information to the Empower dashboard, so I do trust it.

Does Empower cost money?

The financial dashboard is 100% free. If you choose their wealth management service, there is a fee. I personally choose to not pay as I don’t use their wealth management service.

Is Empower a good app?

Yes, it’s one of the best free financial tracking tools available. Many users (including myself) love it for its net worth tracking and other features.

What are some common Empower complaints?

Some users don’t like that Empower advisors reach out to upsell wealth management services if you link over $100K. Also, people who want more out of a budgeting tool may think it’s too basic, such as when compared to tools like YNAB.

Did Empower used to be called Personal Capital? Why the change?

Yes! Empower acquired Personal Capital in 2020 and rebranded to be under one name.

Is Empower Worth It? My Final Thoughts

I hope you enjoyed my Empower Review.

If you’re looking for a free, easy way to track your finances, then you may want to try Empower. Even if you don’t have a large portfolio, the budgeting, net worth tracking, and retirement planning tools can be really helpful.
